Sunless Application Tips
- Instruct your client to, exfoliate and shave in the bath or shower at home before their session. Do not apply moisturizer, creams, or deodorant before your sunless session and wear dark loose clothes (preferably cotton).
- Provide disposable undergarments, but recommend that they wear their own personal undergarments or bathing suite. The tan lines are better from their own clothing since they fit properly.
- The client should wear their hair back or provide them with a clip and or elastic bands. Hairnets are optional, for blonde hair I would advise they wear one.
- Wearing make-up is optional. Some clients do not want their face tan. Some clients will. Depending on the formulation of the make-up, water based make-ups allow the tan to absorb and some of the heavier make-ups provide a barrier and do not allow for the sunless solution to penetrate into the skin. Wearing no make-up is best for the client who wants a nice tanned face.
- Clients should remove jewelry before session.
- Barrier cream should be applied before using a sunless automated booth. Barrier cream is optional with a hand held (airbrush or turbine) depending on the skill of the technician, and or skin type of client. Dryer skin will need the barrier cream.
- Start the sunless session. Make sure the client understands what to expect before the session starts. They need to know how to stand, how it will feel, and breathing techniques.
- During the session for airbrush or turbine, I like to have a sponge applicator in case of drips, runs, or excessive build up on hair follicles. You really notice if they have a lot of body hair at this point. A cotton ball is good to use on facial areas to even the tan.
- Ending the airbrush session; I examine the skin to see if there are any runs, build up, or dripping. I immediately correct any imperfections, then spray the skin with a light coat of Radiance. They will remove the barrier cream. I prepare them for leaving. I tell them to stand for about 1-2 minutes and if the skin still feels tacky to use the provided baby powder to the skin before getting dressed. The baby powder helps to keep the solution off of clothing. Remind them not to shower for 4-6 hours, not to get excessively hot or work out. Use an umbrella for rainy days. The tan should last about 7 days.
- I have them pay at the end of the session unless they have prepaid for multiple sessions. This allows me to up sell them more sessions and product during the session.
Some good things to keep on hand. Face and body wipes, hair clips and bands, baby powder, a hand held mirror, hairnets, disposable under garments for men and women, barrier cream, Radiance, different levels (colors) of solution, and literature for them to take with them to care for the sunless tan.
